Lake Country Training Blog Page

Lake Country Training fitness and health blog featuring training, nutrition, health, wellness and coaching insights.

Welcome to the Lake Country Training Blog, where we share our experience, perspective, and practical information on topics related to personal training, fitness, nutrition, weight loss, strength training, GLP-1 coaching, HRT, TRT, peptides, supplementation, sports performance, recovery, healthy aging, and overall health and wellness.

Many of the topics we cover here are relevant to the people we work with every day throughout Oconomowoc, Delafield, Hartland, Pewaukee, Okauchee, Nashotah, Merton, Summit, Dousman, Waukesha, and the surrounding Lake Country communities.

Whether your goal is to lose body fat, build muscle, get stronger, improve athletic performance, improve your nutrition, maintain muscle while using a GLP-1 medication, or simply become healthier and more physically fit, our goal is to provide useful information you can actually apply to your life.

With more than 25 years of personal training experience, we’ve seen the fitness industry change considerably. Some principles have stood the test of time, while other ideas have changed as better research, technology, medications, training methods, and nutritional information have become available.

Health & Fitness Trends and Techniques Are Constantly Evolving.

New research and better evidence continue to shape what we know about exercise, nutrition, metabolism, weight management, muscle development, recovery, longevity, hormones, supplementation, and performance. However, much of what actually works and gets results has never changed no matter what next new trend, new idea, or current fad is.

At Lake Country Training, we believe strongly in continuing to learn. That means looking at new information, comparing it with what we’ve learned through education and decades of real world coaching experience, asking questions, and being willing to adjust our approach when better evidence supports a different conclusion.

We don’t believe in blindly following the latest fitness trend just because it’s popular on social media. We also don’t believe that something should automatically be dismissed simply because it’s new.

Learn. Evaluate. Apply. Adjust.

That’s how we approach training, nutrition, coaching, and health.

Because of that, some of the opinions or information shared in older articles may evolve as new research and evidence become available. That’s exactly how it should work. Being knowledgeable doesn’t mean refusing to change your mind. It means being willing to continue learning and make better decisions when better information becomes available.

Our goal with this blog isn’t to make health and fitness more complicated. There’s already enough noise, misinformation, quick fixes, and conflicting advice out there.

Our goal is to help make it clearer and more practical.

Whether you’re already working with Lake Country Training or you’re simply looking for reliable fitness and health information from a local Lake Country training and coaching business, we hope these articles help you learn something, improve your approach, and make better decisions about your health and fitness.

Keep learning. Keep improving. And most importantly – keep doing the work.

Train Properly During Your Workouts

Is Training The Wrong Way Worse Than No Training At All When you were a kid, someone somewhere along the way told you to sit up straight. No doubt it was irritating but if you’re one of the 130 million Americans who spend most of their jobs sitting in an office chair, you’re probably starting to realize why “bad posture” is so bad. We’re not going to rail on bad posture because we’d be preaching to the choir. In fact, [...]

Everyone Has The “Ability”

Everyone Has The "Ability" Ability is defined as the possession of skill or the ability to do something. Everyone has different abilities. Everyone has the ability to succeed at achieving goals that they work hard at towards achieving. Some choose to work more diligently at achieving those goals than other people do. And, some of those goals take priority over other goals. So sticking with the word "Ability" you have the ability to bend, twist, squat and move around [...]

Over-complicated ‘Core Training’ Is Making Athletes Worse

Over-complicated 'Core Training' Is Making Athletes Worse With the rise of social media and the increasing use of the term "functional," and "core training" - those terms meanings are now broader than ever. Search Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube and you'll find literally thousands of different moves being termed as core exercises. With so many options at your disposal, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Especially since everyone online is an expert, and everything online is also true, right?(Sarcasm). Keep [...]

Not Getting Faster? Your ‘Speed Training’ May Be Conditioning Training

Not Getting Faster? Your 'Speed Training' Might Actually Be Conditioning Training Well, if this is the case and your speed training workouts are actually conditioning workouts all I can say for you is that you are doing it wrong. A typical "speed workout" I do myself or take an athlete through requires a lot of rest to allow he/she/them to be able to max out at or above 95% (sprint at full speed) for each of the reps. Unfortunately, [...]

Body Weight Exercises

Body Weight Exercises & Body Weight Workouts I love to train with my own body weight. Body weight workouts and body weight exercises are great on their own or mixed in with others. There are just so many ways to progress exercises without even worrying about external weights. I understand that not everyone feels that way. Many people love lifting weights, whether free weights or on machines and I totally get it! But as someone who coaches people day in [...]
